ORC Pit to Paradise: Week Five

Ah, week five.  It traditionally comes with a sense of optimistic hopelessness, as seen with our master bath and kitchen.  This time it feels a bit more like a sense of impending doom.  I mean, take a look at our to do list:
  • Finish tilling the grass area (nope, still not done)
  • Install borders for playground and patio
  • Grade grass area for drainage
  • Lay sod
  • Roll sod
  • Remove weeds from play area and patio
  • Install landscape fabric
  • Arrange pavers and pour gravel
  • Complete treehouse and obstacle course
  • Spread mulch
  • Build planter boxes
  • Build HVAC screen
  • Install dog potty
  • Paint back door
  • Paint tile
  • Replace lighting
  • Assemble furniture
  • Trim ivy
  • Remove Sago Palm
I'm planning to work like I actually believe there's a chance, so we're not giving up yet.  I'd love for everyone to think dry, warm thoughts for the next few days so our grass delivery isn't delayed again.

What's taking so long with the tilling?  I've got to do it by hand to avoid harming the roots of our oak tree.  I've removed about seven buckets full of rocks from the soil, and I'm just getting to the worst section.  Every shovel I scoop looks like this:

In happier news, I did finally bite on a dining set for our patio. It's only $268.79 at Target!  Other 7 piece sets that aren't plastic all seem to start at $700, including the same set in gray.  Even that gray set is originally $1000, so that price feels like a steal.  And yes, that's the kind of justification I feel compelled to create for literally any nonessential purchase.

I'd love to stick around and write a longer post so I can enjoy my coffee for ten more minutes, but I've got to go buy some candy and dig up some rocks. Go check out the other ORC spaces here!

Thanks for reading,
Kelli

  1. Good luck! I wish we could swap weather - our state desperately needs rain and I have plenty of dry weather to send.
